I think I have a role to play in influencing the minds of men."

THE PETER FULLER MEMORIAL FOUNDATION

Peter Fuller was one of Britain’s leading art critics. Fuller had a weekly column in The Sunday Telegraph and was the founding editor of Modern Painters magazine, one of the most important magazines on art in Britain. Along with such prestigious books as Art and Psychoanalysis Peter wrote regularly for Art Monthly UK and New Society for nearly two decades. His writings are currently being read all over the world from TATE Britain to universities in China.

As part of its scheme to establish the online magazine, an offshoot of the Foundation’s pamphlet Blunt Edge that was published annually and sent to its members, the charity is calling for donations from artists whose work was written about by Peter Fuller and people from the broader arts sector who were influenced by Fuller’s polemical ideas.

Over the years the Foundation has had a number of trustees who have worked together to continue the ideals of Peter Fuller, in particular Roy Oxlade, who was the Chairman of the Trustees from 1998 to 2007, and the founding editor of Blunt Edge.

Art Influence is a quarterly online journal with a unique take on art writing and criticism, incorporating video and audio footage from the Peter Fuller archives, up coming artists and interviews with current leaders in the art world. The title derives from Fuller’s ability to influence people by his fearlessness, from scholars to giants of the art world, in this way the magazine will aspire to the original ideals Fuller upheld when conceiving Modern Painters. The contributors are eminent members of the art world who had a connection with Fuller’s work as colleagues, the artists he analysed, or high profile commentators from the broader arts sector, commissioned to write on issues they feel passionately about.

Now is the time for a revival of true art criticism, a forum is needed for leaders of artistic thought in all fields to develop their ideas and present them for and with the public. This is why art matters, this is Art Influence.
